WHY WOOL?

Wool is a sustainable, natural, biodegradable fiber

Wool grows naturally on sheep, and is made of a protein called keratin-the same protein that is in human hair.

Humans and sheep have had a symbiotic relationship for 10,000 years.  Humans give protection and care to their sheep.  The sheep grow wool, and the shepherd shears the fleeces once or twice a year.  Shearing is a gift that goes two ways.  Wool sheep cannot shed their wool  so the shepherd by shearing them is being kind, helping keep them comfortable and healthy.  In turn the sheep gift the shepherd with their wool, which will grow back and the cycle will repeat itself.

Wool is a biodegradable product.  A biodregradable product can be broken down biologically into natural raw materials such as carbon dioxide, water and naturally occurring minerals.  These are then  reintegrated into the nutrient cycle.  Products made out of synthetic fibers can take 30-40 years to degrade, contributing to the increasing numbers of landfills.  Wool can degrade almost completely in six months and since it takes a fraction of time to degrade vs the synthetics wool is an excellent choie for helping care for our planet.
